Abstract

Effect of dental health education, toothbrushing, and two kinds of dentifrices on dental caries occurrence were experimentally studied in the middle and high school boys and girls.
695 middle and high school boys and girls were evenly divided into three groups; a control A group, to which toothbrushes, tooth pastes and salts were not supplied, another experimental B group, to which toothbrushes and salts supplied under dental health education, the third experimental C group, to which toothbrushes and toothpastes supplied and dental health education instructed.
Prevalence of dental caries was calculated by Bodecker¢¥s Modified Dental Caries Index, and experimental period was from June 12, 1968 to June 12, 1969.
The obtained results were as follow:
1. DMFS was more increased in the bays than in the girls during experimental period.
2. Increase rate of DMFS were gradually reduced by ageing.
3. Under the dental health education, the value of toothbrushing in the control of dental caries was evaluated highly.
4. Caries Preventive effect of tooth pastes was greater than that of salts.
5. The importance of dental health education was emphasized in the control of dental caries.
